WBE stands for Woman Business Enterprise
Eligibility Requirements for WBE Certification:
- Applicant (woman or women) must be active in daily management and own at least 51% of the company
- Applicant must be U.S. citizens
- Applicant must work at the firm full time with no conflicting outside employment or ownership
- Applicant must control the day-to-day operations and be the final decision maker on all company decisions
- Business must be operational for at least 6 months and have customers/clients
- One of the woman owners must serve as President or CEO (if the position exists)
- Business must be legally organized and in good standing as required by all applicable federal, state, county, or city regulations in which the applicant operates
- Business cannot be the member of a franchise
- Business cannot be owned by an irrevocable trust. The trust must be revocable, where the woman is the grantor, the trustee, and the sole current beneficiary of the trust
Benefits of WBE Program Participation:
- The federal government must award 5% (roughly $25 billion) of its prime and subcontract dollars to woman certified businesses
- Business certified as WBE qualify for extra funding, and may be selected in a smaller set-aside solicitation pool than other businesses
